Armani, Cavalli end Milan fashion week

Masculine looks at Giorgio Armani, Naomi Campbell rocks at Roberto Cavalli

MILAN, ITALY (FEBRUARY 27, 2012) (REUTERS -
Italian designers Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavalli ended Milan fashion week with a mix of androgynous and glittering rock looks in Milan, on Monday (February 27)
Giorgio Armani played with a fun, rockabilly look for his androgynous 2012 autumn-winter collection.
Pants in prince of wales were the highlight of the show, and were paired with flat, pointed shoes.
Blouses came in bright colours such as orange, fuchsia and red.

Inspired by masculine looks, a pocket-handkerchief in a necktie became a flower pinned to lapels on jackets.

Armani stuck to his image of a slender, masculine woman but with glimpses of eccentricity.
The designer elaborated the bermuda pants seen at his youth Emporio line into larger pants peeking out from underskirts.

Bags, pretty small in size, came in bright colours. Legs were covered with thick black stockings. All models wore hats.

For the evening, dresses in bright orange and red were embroidered with crystals.

Glimmering tailored jackets were worn over black bermudas and paired with flat pointed shoes for a sophisticated woman that defies easy conventions.

If Armani preferred wearable looks, Cavalli stuck to an opulent rock note, with furs and sequins likely to attract Russian shoppers. Supermodel Naomi Campbell strutted down the walk to the applause of the audience.

Round mini skirts were paired with shiny blouses in green, red and orange colours.
Trousers had flared hems in a revisitation of the 70s. Long skirts had new layered volumes, for a more deconstructed look.

Stars don "va-va-voom" gowns for Oscars red carpet

Stars including Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez wow the red carpet with their stunning ensembles. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

It's biggest fashion runway in the world - the Oscar red carpet. And on Sunday night, the stars did not disappoint.
Sandra Bullock went backless in black and white.
Gwyneth Paltrow made an elegant entry in an off-white Tom Ford ensemble with cape.

HAL RUBENSTEIN, FASHION DIRECTOR OF "IN STYLE" MAGAZINE, SAYING:
"It was a good night, it was a really good night. I thought Gwyneth looked statuesque and extraordinary. Jennifer Lopez gave people exactly what they wanted as a movie star. And then there was a personal best like Octavia Spencer. It was a real sense of refinement and elegance for the evening as opposed to that sort of overt va-va-voom glamour except for maybe Jennifer."

Angelina Jolie rocked the carpet - fearlessly posing in a thigh-high cut Versace velvet dress.
Viola Davis made her entrance in an emerald green Vera Wang, while Glenn Close chose a similar hue by designer Zac Posen.

For Meryl Streep it was all Oscar gold in her Lanvin gown.

HAL RUBENSTEIN, FASHION DIRECTOR OF "IN STYLE" MAGAZINE, SAYING:
"And you know Meryl usually, there's always a certain reticence I think on her part when she does the red carpet she always seems to be hiding her body, and this was the one night when she didn't. And she looked glamorous, it's not a word you would always associate with Meryl Streep."

For Cameron Diaz, it was figure-hugging Gucci.

But not all the focus was on the women on the red carpet: Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show when he appeared dressed as his upcoming character in "The Dictator."
